Andrew is a “household robot” that, after falling out of a window, starts to grow human emotions and learn human intelligence. Before he falls out of the window, Andrew would never pass the Turing test. For example, he does not understand the meaning and correct response when Sir tells him goodnight. But after he falls out of the window, Andrew, after learning some better vocabulary, can pass the Turing test. He comes to develop complex speech and was able to talk just as well as a human. Robots have the potential to be just as smart as humans since even humans can be considered as biological machines. Our cells “work” just like a robot’s processor works.

A robot should not be considered to be alive since robots cannot die. With life there must be death so robots cannot be alive. I do believe that Andrew can be considered a human being, since he is a fully functional sentient being, but “alive would not be the correct term to label Andrew. On the other hand, Andrew cannot be considered a household appliance as he can do anything a human being can so he should have all the rights that comes with humanity.

Humans should not be allowed to own robots like Andrew since they can feel the oppression of slavery and have feelings. Any sentient being should have the opportunity to make their own decisions and to be free. AI, in the movie, does not pose any threat to humans and thus should not be exterminated by humans either.

Humans should be able to marry anything they want. It is a fundamental right of a human to do as they please without depriving the liberties of another human. Marrying a robot, or an artificial human does not interfere with anyone’s rights and thus should be allowed. There is not reason to not allow the marriage of a human and an intelligent robot.

True AI should have the same rights as humans since they are sentient beings and deserve to be treated better than inanimate objects. It is a human’s natural rights that he should be treated in the same fashion as their peers, so is if same if intelligent robots were to be labeled as humans. Also, humans would not have the power to take rights away from intelligent robots. AI would be so much more powerful than we are and it would be impossible to keep it from gaining its natural rights. They should be considered as humans.

I believe that AI is a bad thing for humanity. AI, which will be so much more efficient than human labor will come to take the place of humans in many fields of society. The need for human labor will be gone and many people will lose their purpose in life. In Bicentennial Man, the director did not show the vast potential of AI. AI could take over every job, and leave humans unemployed. And since they are intelligent, they would at least match humans in art and philosophy. Humans will feel inferior and dumb, which in fact, would be true.
